Bereavement Support & Grief Counselling

Experiencing the loss of someone significant can feel like the world has abruptly shifted beneath your feet. Grief is completely unique to every individual - there is no right or wrong way to feel, no predictable timeline, and no neat set of stages to pass through.

You might find yourself navigating a complex storm of deep sadness, sudden anger, numbness, confusion, or overwhelming guilt. At times, the expectation to "move on" or hold everything together for those around you can make the isolation feel even heavier. Please know that whatever you are carrying right now, your feelings are entirely valid.

At Taking Strides Counselling, I offer a safe, warm, and compassionate space at my physical practice on Upper Church Road in Weston-super-Mare. Here, you don't have to put on a brave face or hurry your healing. I am here to sit with you in the emptiness and walk alongside you as you process your loss.

A Non-judgemental Space to Honour Your Grief

Because grief cannot be "fixed" with rigid instructions or clinical advice, my approach to bereavement support is entirely person-centred. We work collaboratively to create a safe container where you can talk about your loss, explore your memories, and voice the thoughts that might feel too heavy to share with family or friends.

I offer supportive counselling for all forms of loss and life transitions, including:

  • Recent Bereavement: Navigating the raw shock, emotional upheaval, and practical adjustment of the initial weeks and months following a death.
  • Delayed or Complex Grief: Processing a loss that happened months or even years ago, where the emotions may have felt buried or stuck until now.
  • Anticipatory Grief: Supporting you through the emotional weight of caring for a loved one with a terminal illness, where the process of grieving begins before the final loss occurs.
  • Loss of a Pet, Career, or Relationship: Honouring the profound, valid grief that comes when a meaningful connection, companion, or life role comes to an end.

Whether you prefer to meet face-to-face in the quiet environment of my Somerset practice room, or utilise secure online video call sessions via Microsoft Teams from anywhere across the UK, we will move exactly at a pace that suits you.

Gently Writing Your Next Chapter

Reaching out for grief support takes courage, especially when your energy feels entirely spent. As a degree-qualified counsellor and a registered member of both the BACP and the NCPS, I provide a highly professional, ethically grounded framework to ensure you feel safe throughout our time together.
